Jonathan Barnes Vesuvius photos

I’ve recently come across some hidden gems again, in our lantern slide collection here at the museum.

Most of the photos are of the Vesuvius eruption in 1906. I particularly like the ones of the people in the aftermath of the eruption. Enjoy!

  2. I wonder if he knew Tempest Anderson? Right sort of age, and I imagine there was quite an intimate community.

My favourite Tempest Anderson fact is that he always kept one hot weather, and one cold weather suitcase packed. This meant wherever a volcano erupted, he could drop what he was doing and just set off.
