Model collection

I thought I’d show you some of the highlights from our model collection this week.

As you can see, some of the models date as far back as 1857. They are  made from plaster and are mostly  from old museum displays. They are a really useful resource for following changes in in how fossils have been interpreted.

There are about 50 models in the collection and most recently they have been used by artists in shadow projections that will hopefully be part of an installation at the Whitworth Art Gallery in the near future.

  1. Do you happen to know who made that plesiosaur?

    • Hi David,

I don’t think we do know unfortunately. I’ve put another image up of the label which says it came via Dublin.

      • It looks a bit like a Vernon Edwards, but with that label and the animal seemingly moulded into it’s base, I’m not so sure.
