Rocks and Minerals join team Palaeontology!

From this week my job has changed so that I now after the rocks and minerals as well as the fossils.

The mineral collection

I’m really looking forward to getting to grips with the collection, teasing out all the stories behind the objects and using them in public activities, education, exhibitions, outreach and research. If you’d like to come and have a look at the collection, please let me know!

Opal form Australia

The fantastic collection contains 9000 rocks and 17000 minerals. Some of the highlights include the meteorite collection, minerals form northern England and the building stone collection. I’ll post more on this collection in the near future.

The rock store

I’d like to pay tribute to David Green, who has looked after the rocks and minerals since 1992. He has left the collection in immaculate condition and has added numerous specimens to it. I wish him all the best for the future.
